Designing this detached house gave us an opportunity to offer the client a lifestyle immersed in nature and the outdoors. We laid out the entire programme on the ground floor to enable a closer relationship with the exterior spaces and make the house more convenient and accessible.
The house is an attractive interplay of four volumes, which join at different angles to accommodate the various rooms. Given the characteristics of the plot, we created a more enclosed space near the road and a more private, sheltered area towards the interior of the plot. This enhanced the relationship between the indoor and outdoor spaces. By dividing the house into four volumes, we were able to adapt to the conditions of the plot and reduce the total scale of the building.
The volumes are topped by sloping roofs, evoking traditional Mediterranean and Valencian architecture. This vernacular concept is taken further with white paint and understated voids in the walls, which enable the light in the different spaces to be controlled in a climate with bright sunlight almost all year round.
In our architecture, we seek to enhance outdoor spaces. Shaded areas are vital for our clients to enjoy their surroundings, so we designed a large porch adjoining the living room that can be used at any time of year.
